And stories that point to the hope of salvation and sanctuary.
Stories of family and heritage.
Stories of America.
Bio? Seriously?
Who am I but a Scotch-Irish mutt from Appalachia? I’m nothing special. Nobody cares about who my “influences” were. And it ain’t like I really had a choice.
The music of my ancestors is baked into the bones of the red clay hills where I grew up. Hints of traditions that date back centuries.
So, I can’t really take any credit for anything. I may have put pen to paper, but the melodies and the rhythms were in the fields and the creeks. They were in the churches and on the sidewalk. They were on the car radio and on my mother’s lips.
Mix all of that up and then let it bake in the California sun for 20 years or so. This is what you get.
I wrote these songs because I felt something. Happy. Sad. Angry.
I hope you like them, but I also hope they make you feel something too.
